DestinationRx Launches Plan Comparison Application for Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Online tool allows seniors to easily find the best plan based on total annual cost

LOS ANGELES, CA – June 9, 2010 DestinationRx, Inc., a health plan and drug comparison industry leader, today announced the launch of its Plan Compare tool for Medicare Supplement Insurance, an innovative technology that provides the most comprehensive, user-friendly analysis of supplemental health plans for Medicare beneficiaries. The Medicare Supplement tool rounds out the Company’s Plan Compare suite for seniors, which also includes online comparison tools for Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans.

“Many carriers approached us in 2008 and 2009 asking if we could add Medicare Supplement plans to our Plan Comparison tools,” said Toby Rogers, Executive Vice President of DestinationRx. “This was a logical next step for us, and we are happy to be able to fulfill their needs, and the needs of their members.”

Medicare Supplement, commonly known as Medigap, refers to private health insurance plans that cover out-of-pocket costs under Medicare, such as deductibles and co-payments. Medigap plans are available to seniors enrolled in both Medicare Part A (hospital) and B (medical) insurance plans. As of June 1, 2010, Medigap coverage is standardized into ten different plan types (A through N), each with a different combination of benefits. Because Medigap plans are private insurance, the rules regarding sale and coverage vary from state to state. With the wide range of options and ongoing changes, choosing the best and most affordable Medigap plan can be difficult.

Similar to DestinationRx’s Part D and Medicare Advantage offerings, the Medicare Supplement tool, through a series of simple screens, allows beneficiaries to easily compare and choose the best health plan for their personal needs. In addition to providing the most relevant cost information available from a plan comparison tool, the DestinationRx Plan Compare tools are easy for seniors to use and understand, cutting through tedious numbers and math to provide the user with an easy-to read chart that quickly illustrates cost savings. The application also allows for easy enrollment by providing an online application that the potential member can quickly complete. Several carriers are already on board, with more coming online for the all new 2010 Medicare Supplement plans beginning this month.

DestinationRx’s Plan Compare tool is also unique in that it compares plans based on total annual cost: users receive a comprehensive analysis that includes not only premium costs but also co-pays, prescription drug costs and other medical cost estimation based on the user’s age and general health status. In an analysis of over 91,000 Medicare Part D enrollees, DestinationRx found that seniors who chose their plan based on total annual cost estimates spent 16 percent less than seniors who chose the plan with the lowest premium. Comparing and choosing an optimal health plan based on total annual cost clearly delivers significant cost savings for beneficiaries over shopping by premium costs alone.

The Company also operates a direct-to-consumer version of its Medicare Supplement Plan Compare program, where beneficiaries can compare costs across health plans, at www.plancompare.destinationrx.com.

“We understand that choosing a Medicare Supplement can be overwhelming for seniors, especially with different plan types,” added Rogers. “Our experience shows that when a carrier provides a senior-friendly tool that allows for an apples-to-apples comparison of all their Medicare offerings, the conversion of visitors to enrollments increases significantly.”
